Cannabis medicines must comply with a list of 16 government-approved medicines.
Thailand announced that some hospitals can now legally produce traditional medicines containing cannabis, as long as there is a traditional Thai medical expert on duty to prepare.
The Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine in Bangkok Post stated that traditional medicine is a treatment for common diseases in certain provinces. The director-general of the department, Marut Jirasetthasiri (Marut Jirasetthasiri), believes that cannabis medicine can only be selected from a list of 16 types permitted by the Thai government.
Marut pointed out that this change reflects the fact that more and more people are seeking to use traditional medicines for treatment.
Across Thailand, 291 units have established to distribute cannabis medicine. According to the Bangkok Post, more than 60,000 rounds of treatment have been provided to patients this year.
Besides, 152 health promotion hospitals have given the green light to expand their cannabis farms to meet the demand for weed-based medicines.
Recreational marijuana is still illegal in Thailand, but for medical and research purposes, marijuana is legal. However, even for medicinal purposes, the import of weeds in the country is still prohibited.
